MAEUS Students at the EU Delegation, Washington, D.C.

In addition to enjoying visitors at home in Illinois, the EU Center provides MAEUS students with opportunities in the Spring to visit Washington DC. Traveling to such an important Center of decision making gives our students a better understanding of how EU agencies work within the United States, and how US government and non-governmental organizations address transatlantic relations and cooperate with peer institutions in the EU. It also grants opportunities for important professional development opportunity for the students. Included in our trips to Washington are visits to organizations and institutions such as:

  • The EU Delegation to the United States
  • The European Parliament Liaison Office with U.S. Congress
  • 1-2 EU member state embassies
  • The U.S. State Department
  • S. Defense Intelligence Agency
  • US AID – Bureau for Europe and Eurasia
  • Selected think tanks like the Brookings Institution and Center for Strategic and International Studies

Extensive professional development opportunities makes the MAEUS program at the University of Illinois not only a great place to get an education, but also to kick-start a career in an energetic, fast-paced field of study.
