Biography

Tuba Akın (she/her) is a PhD student in Anthropology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Research Assistant at the European Union Center. Her research focuses on racialization politics, minority rights, and political agency, with a regional emphasis on Turkey and Europe. Drawing from feminist and decolonial methodologies, she focuses on how activists of different Roma communities appropriate and reconfigure diverse political discourses in their socialization processes, organization strategies, and public expressions of identity and engage in grassroots activism. At the EUC, Tuba supports academic programming and outreach initiatives, strongly committed to inclusive and community-centered knowledge production. She has a human rights background and has collaborated with civil society organizations across Europe and Turkey.
