The European Union Center at the University of Illinois is excited to announce a call for nominations for the Larry Neal Prize for Excellence in EU Scholarship. Thanks to generous funding from the European Commission’s Jean Monnet Center of Excellence (JMCE) grant, the Center is soliciting submissions of both outstanding books and articles that address current issues faced by the European Union or in transatlantic relations. Submissions are encouraged from all disciplinary fields.

Eligibility:

  • Submissions must be written by faculty affiliated with a Jean Monnet Center of Excellence in the United States or Canada.

  • Books and articles may be the work of multiple authors, including edited volumes.

  • The submissions should have been published between January 2019 and November 2020.

  • Submissions should be written in English or are English translations.

  • All entries must be original works and not a reprint or re-edition.

Nominations may be submitted by publishers, authors, and colleagues. The submissions will be evaluated by a committee of representatives from the JMCE network. The winning author(s) will receive an invitation to the University of Illinois to present a lecture with honorarium on the selected work. We wish for the visit to take place in person, but allow that circumstances may necessitate that the visit take place virtually. The EUC will feature winners and any honorable mentions on our website and in Center publications. The deadline for submissions is Friday, January 1, 2021.

To nominate an article or book, please submit a one-page cover letter explaining the significance of the work, addressed to the attention of “Larry Neal Prize Committee.” For nominated articles, please submit one digital copy or full publisher’s information to the EU Center at eucenter@illinois.edu. For nominated books, please submit full publisher’s information in the cover letter.
