What did you do after graduating from the MAEUS program?
After the MAEUS program, I attended the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law, where I received my JD and LLM in International Business & Trade. Throughout law school I clerked at a family law firm and worked as a clinician at the UIC International Human Rights Clinic. After passing the Illinois State Bar Exam, I began my career at TayCo Brace - a medical device company that specializes in manufacturing and selling an external (over-the-shoe) ankle stabilization device. My role includes writing grant proposals for RDT&E and negotiating contracts with the VA and military. I currently reside in Arlington, Virginia with my wife.
Has the MAEUS program helped you in your career?
Being able to immerse myself in research and academia for two years allowed me to better define my career aspirations of working in international trade law. Additionally, being able to continue learning French and German, as well as beginning Arabic study, allowed me to continue to hone my language skills.
Do you have any advice for current students in the MAEUS program?
The MAEUS program offers a unique opportunity that allows the students to really dive deep into research of their choosing. Taking classes that not only helped with my research, but that I found interesting, helped guide me towards my current roles. Writing a thesis was no easy task, but it definitely made me prepared for writing in law school and beyond. Also, the FLAS fellowship was a great opportunity to immerse myself in a new foreign language.
Do you have any other thoughts you would like to share about your time at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign?
I spent seven years in CU and consider it a second home. Take time to experience all that Champaign-Urbana has to offer!
