Founded in 1998, the European Union Center serves as the focal point for teaching, research, and outreach on Europe and the European Union at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Our sponsored projects, affiliated faculty, academic programs, and outreach and public engagement activities foreground interdisciplinary, inclusive, and international perspectives on issues impacting Europe as a geographic and cultural space over time.
The EU Center plays a particularly important role on campus in the promotion of language study and public engagement with the significance of transatlantic relations in U.S. foreign policy. Our graduate and undergraduate student communities play important roles in the life of the center, and EUC staff and affiliate faculty aspire to offer all students who interact with the center valuable perspectives, skills, and connections for globally informed endeavors. We are proud to offer a Master of Arts in EU Studies, the first such degree program in the US, as well as a 5-year BA/MA degree and a graduate minor. The EU Center is privileged to work with affiliated faculty of the University of Illinois, who bring us into dialogue with partners from around the U.S. and the world, thanks to their international reputations as experts in their fields.
