Since 2003, the US Department of Education has designated the European Union Center (EUC) as a Title VI National Resource Center (NRC). The NRC program provides grants to establish, strengthen, and operate language and area studies centers that serve as national resources. On campus, the EUC promotes the interdisciplinary teaching of courses relevant to Europe and its languages, most notably through the global reach of the Master of Arts in European Union Studies program and by offering several less commonly taught languages (LCTLs) that attract students from around the world. Additionally, the EUC supports innovative research both at the University of Illinois and through collaborations with other scholars and higher education institutions. Finally, the EUC offers in-person and virtual outreach programs, professional development, and curricular assistance for K-12 teacherseducators at community colleges and minority-serving institutions, the business sector, community organizations, and the general public. Information is further disseminated through conferences, lectures, radio/TV broadcasts, social media, and webcasts.
