The European Union Center is proud to announce the 2022 Schuman Challenge team from the University of Illinois. On April 6-8, the team will travel to the Delegation of the European Union to the United States in Washington DC to compete in the EU’s annual foreign policy challenge named after Robert Schuman, the influential French politician and EU founding father who also served as President of the European Parliament. This year, the University of Illinois is one of thirty colleges and universities around the United States to participate, and the team will present and defend a transatlantic policy initiative before a panel of judges with expertise in transatlantic issues. The 2022 Schuman Challenge question is “How should the EU and US cooperate in Afghanistan following the US military withdrawal?”

The Illinois team consists of Benjamin Nathan (Political Science, senior), Frank Rocco (Political Science, senior), and Nathan Stone (Political Science, senior), and is coached by Professor Kostas Kourtikakis (Political Science) and Lucas Henry (European Union Center).

Please join us in wishing the Schuman Challenge team good luck! We know that you will do great work!
