What happened to the TED Alumni Program?

The TED Alumni program was an opportunity for educators who have participated in any of the previous cohorts of TED to return and further collaborate with their transatlantic peers. Based on feedback from TED participants, we have decided to launch two programs in place of TED Alumni: a less time-intensive program (TED Collaboration Corner) and a more time-intensive, project-based program (TED Fellows). We expect to launch the TED Fellows program at the start of the 2022-23 school year. Please check back in spring 2022 for more information.

What is the TED Collaboration Corner?

The TED Collaboration Corner (please see here for the 2022 schedule) is a redesign of the TED Alumni program with the aim of providing previous TED participants with a less time-intensive way to stay connected to fellow educators from Europe and the U.S. The goal of this program is for TED alumni to return and delve deeper into topics of particular interest through presentations and/or guided discussions with their transatlantic peers. These topics can be general or subject-, age-, or needs-specific. Educators from the TED 2021 cohort may think of the TED Collaboration Corner as an expanded version of the intersessions.

Teachers who have not previously participated in the TED Program are not eligible to lead a TED Collaboration Corner session but are encouraged to apply to this year’s regular program (click here for more information).

FAQs

How does the TED Collaboration Corner differ from the Transatlantic Educators Dialogue (TED) program?

  • TED Collaboration Corner is intended for educators who have taken part in the first-year TED program to explore more specific topics of interest within education and to have the opportunity to lead sessions and shape the content of the program.
  • The TED program is more time-intensive, and participants are expected to attend all of the weekly sessions. TED Collaboration Corner is meant to be a less time-intensive program, and educators can attend as many or as few sessions as they would like.
  • TED Collaboration Corner will only consist of weekly synchronous sessions, whereas the TED program consists of both weekly synchronous meetings and asynchronous discussion board responses.

What are the process and timeline for submitting a proposal to lead a session?

Educators who have participated in the first-year TED program are welcome to fill out this form to propose a session. Sessions may be on any education-related topic. We recommend session lengths of 20-50 minutes for presentations and under 60 minutes for guided discussions, and we recommend having an intended audience in mind. For example, is your session for all teachers, for teachers who teach a particular subject, or for teachers who work with students of certain grades or needs?

Proposals are due by Sunday, January 9. Decision notifications will be sent before Sunday, January 30. You may propose multiple sessions. If you have a topic in mind but are not sure if it would be a good fit, please contact Jennifer Smith (jsmit31@ilstu.edu) and Sydney Lazarus (lazarus5@illinois.edu).

I do not wish to lead a session but would like to attend the sessions. Do I need to apply?

No, you will not need to fill out an application form to attend the sessions. Once we have reviewed the session proposals and created a finalized schedule, we will share it, along with Zoom links, with everyone.

May I participate in both TED Collaboration Corner and the TED Fellows program?

Yes, you are welcome to participate in both!

I have not participated in the first-year TED program before, but I am interested in attending the TED Collaboration Corner sessions. May I do so?

Educators who have not participated in the first-year TED program may attend the TED Collaboration Corner sessions, but they would not be eligible to present or lead a session.

Will I receive a certificate and/or professional development credit for presenting a session in the TED Collaboration Corner program?

At the end of the program, all presenters will receive a certificate. Illinois teachers interested in receiving Professional Development Hours (PDH) for presenting in this program must contact the program coordinator in advance. U.S. teachers from other states may use this program to register for professional development credit in their home states.

Will I receive a certificate and/or professional development credit for attending TED Collaboration Corner sessions?

At this time, we are not able to offer certificates to attendees. However, Illinois teachers interested in receiving Professional Development Hours (PDH) for attending sessions in this program may be able to do so and must let the program coordinator know in advance.

Is it free to participate in TED Collaboration Corner?

Yes.

Will we use Moodle as part of TED Collaboration Corner?

No, the TED Collaboration Corner will only consist of weekly synchronous sessions.

Where and when will the TED Collaboration Corner meet?

Like the TED Alumni program in previous years, the TED Collaboration Corner will meet virtually on Zoom, so participants may participate anywhere they are located, provided they have access to the internet.

Participants will meet online 11:00am - 12:00 pm (U.S. Central Time Zone) / 4:00 - 5:00 pm (Greenwich Mean Time) on select Sundays.
