The Schuman Challenge is an annual foreign affairs competition that is held by the Delegation of the European Union to the United States. This is a great opportunity for undergraduate students, as they are called to present and defend policy initiatives related to the transatlantic alliance to a panel of judges made up of diplomats, foreign policy experts, and reporters.

The 2024 Schuman Challenge was held in Washington, D.C. on April 4-5. The theme was: "How can the EU and the U.S. more effectively engage the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region on areas of shared priorities and common interest?" The UIUC team in the 2024 Schuman Challenge consisted of Anastasia Calkins, Alexis Delgado, and Alexandria Stratton. The team was coached by Kostas Kourtikakis, Teaching Associate Professor of Political Science, and Eylül Begüm Saglam, PhD Student in Political Science and EU Center Research Assistant.
