Brent Rosenstein

Brent Rosenstein is an alum from the MAEUS program and a two-time FLAS Fellowship Recipient.

Did you receive any awards or honors during your time in the program? (FLAS, Fulbright, other scholarships, etc...)

FLAS Fellowship in Arabic (Summer 2013), FLAS Fellowship in French (AY 2013-14)

What is your current position/job title?

Just finished my Ph.D. program.

Please provide a brief overview of what you have done academically and/or professionally since graduating from the MAEUS program.

Since graduating from the MAEUS program, I've continued my graduate studies at New York University and the University at Buffalo. My research focuses on eighteenth and nineteenth-century French interpreters in the Mediterranean and how they shaped French perspectives of the Muslim world. I've also had the chance to teach at both Buffalo and the Université de Paris (Diderot).

How has the MAEUS program helped you in your current career?

My time at the EUC was invaluable in helping me to develop my research skills and helping me to find the subjects that I was passionate in studying.

Do you have any advice or suggestions for current students in the MAEUS program?

Take full advantage of the program's interdisciplinary nature! Being able to work with and learn from people with similar interests in a variety of different fields can help give you new perspectives and open up new opportunities for your work. Also, don't shy away from trying to pick up a new language and/or applying for a FLAS while you're there.
