Deadline: Sunday, May 4, 2025

The European Union Center at the University of Illinois is pleased to offer summer funding to support development of courses related to European/EU studies for the 2025-26 academic year, with priority given to courses that will be taught in fall 2025. Eligible proposals include but are not limited to developing new courses or modules; creating or updating educational resources; and organizing guest lectures and virtual exchanges. Courses may be in any discipline but must have significant content related to European studies. Topics of relevance to European studies range widely from the languages, cultures, and history of Europe to transatlantic/international studies, criminal justice, climate change, and business. For examples of previous projects funded by this grant, please see here.

Awards are earmarked for faculty at community colleges (CCs) and minority-serving institutions (MSIs), with priority given to faculty teaching in Illinois or surrounding Midwestern states. CC/MSI faculty who are also enrolled at or employed by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign are not eligible for this grant. We expect to award two grants of up to $2,000 each, but we may modify the number and amounts of the awards if the applications so warrant. These course development grants are funded by a Title VI National Resource Center grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

The funding will be paid as a one-time honorarium after the course development work is completed. Please note that our ability to disburse the honorarium is contingent upon continued federal funding availability. Projects should be completed by August 1, 2025 with a report submitted to the EU Center by August 8, 2025. Awardees are encouraged to share outcomes from the project with colleagues from other institutions, such as through the EU Center’s annual Illinois EU Studies Conference.

To apply, please submit the following materials in one combined PDF to eucenter@illinois.edu:

  • A one-page project description on your proposed course
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Paragraph statement of how the grant would fill a need not supported by other available sources
  • Brief letter from the departmental chair in support of the project

Applications are due Sunday, May 4 at 11:59 P.M. CDT. We aim to notify applicants by Thursday, May 15. Please direct any questions to eucenter@illinois.edu.
